Lingua Guild was established by a group of translators working for grass roots organizations in the 1960s and 1970s with the goal of linking and promoting exchange between citizens of Asian countries. Its history since being established in 1983 spans over three decades.

The name, which combines lingua (meaning language) and guild (meaning an association of artisans), reflects the company’s organizing principle as a professional association of translators whose craft is language.
